| TO REMOVE BARRIERS BETWEEN AND AMONGST COMMUNITIES AND TO PROMOTE AN INCLUSIVE AND J UST SOCIETY IN ABERDEEN AND ABERDEENSHIRE |
| ABOUT US | BACKGROUNDAberdeen International Centre was formed in 1996 as an umbrella voluntary organization representing ethnic and international community groups living in Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire. We aim to raise awareness about problems and barriers towards social inclusion. Our centre originally started as a group of individuals and representatives from the Aberdeen international community because we faced problems accessing the mainstream system and public services. Our wide range of experience now includes dealing with issues such as housing, education, health, discrimination, employment, translation and interpretation, asylum and immigration, childcare, social justice and security etc. AIC has now emerged as a successful voluntary organisation and enjoys a high profile and very close links and working relationships with more than 10 community groups and many public, statutory, voluntary and private organisations. We have established a vast database of individuals, who are involved with the International Centre in a variety of capacities. AIC encourages community groups and individuals to get involved in their activities and projects, either within the management committee, in an advisory capacity or as a volunteer. If you would like to become an active member, please visit us at our centre, call us or send us an e-mail for more information.
. ResourcesWe are grateful for Aberdeen City Council's (SLA) ongoing support to make the running of Aberdeen International Centre possible. From time to time we have been in a position to receive funds from organizations such as the Heritage Lottery Fund, Lloyds TSB and Aberdeenshire Council which, over the years, have enabled us to run projects including Pillar (mental health), The Healthy Living Network, Route of Costume and Young Scot.
